3.2 million visits in 4 days

Posted by Sigurd on 6 September 2008

DemConvention.com homepage screenshotInterest in U.S. Politics set a new traffic record for a SilverStripe-powered website last week. DemConvention.com, the official website for the four day U.S. Democratic Party's National Convention, set some impressive stats:

  • 3.2 million visits
  • 2.6 billion hits
  • 350,000 hours of streaming video served

The website runs on a number of Apache/Redhat Linux webservers. While PHP5 and MySQL underpin any SilverStripe website, the scalability is due primarily to the static file caching code we blogged about recently.

California Women's Conference website sets SilverStripe traffic record

Posted by Sigurd on 15 July 2008

California Women's Website Front PageYesterday the SilverStripe-powered website CaliforniaWomen.org began offering conference tickets for the largest and most dynamic gathering of women in North America. All of the tickets were sold in an unprecedented less-than-three-hour rush.

Thanks to a new caching system that shall be documented and released in an upcoming version of SilverStripe, a single webserver handled more than 80,000 page views in these key hours, in addition to associated images, animations, stylesheets, and javascript files. SilverStripe was used to handle the public-facing aspects of the conference website, and conference organisers even used the CMS to edit pages during the burst of traffic.

SilverStripe helps the world move forward

A great example of SilverStripe graphic design flexibility and back-end prowess is inform.co.nz. It contains a vibrant website full of useful information about life and other personal insurances. Once you sign up online and get a personal insurance recommendation, you can then view and edit all your policy details much like online banking.

SilverStripe is used by Inform staff for all their policy and customer details and communication database, too. Graphic design by The Church.

We recently helped by building them a great parenting-resource website and you can help too by voting for Greer Robson on the Dancing with the Stars TV show. Use your phone to text "Greer" to 8981 because if she wins tonight, proceeds will then go to her nominated charity, Parents Inc. (See full competition details).

SilverStripe helps Parenting

Posted by Sigurd on 1 May 2007

Parents Inc magazineAs a parent, I'm glad to announce we've helped relaunch the Parents Inc website, dedicated to making parenting easier, more fun, and rewarding for the whole family. The website provides thousands of parenting tips, a comprehensive online store for parents and kids, subscription to their parenting magazine (pictured) and a family coaching service. They also run hundreds of regular parenting courses around New Zealand, which I personally recommend. (Oh, and the site's also a lovely demonstration of a full-featured, vibrant website powered by SilverStripe)
