Version 0.12 of the our forum module has just been released. One of the key improvements is making it easier to register and login to forums, thanks to an ongoing effort by Markus Lanthaler who joined us for Google Summer of Code at the start of 2007.
Markus added OpenID support, including the use of attribute exchange.This means visitors to your forum can store their personal details (name, email, password, etc) in one place and not have to manually type them in when registering to your forum, saving them time. The fact your password is centralised is also more secure and convienient than might expect; I hate the fact that if I sign up to a system that any password I use could easily be tried on another account, and OpenID solves that.

Thanks to one of our open source community members, Roel Gloudemans, you can now use SilverStripe in conjunction with external authentication sources. This allows you to login to the CMS or other secure parts of your SilverStripe website with an account stored in LDAP, Active Directory, a mailserver and so on.
Roel would appreciate people to test the module and give feedback.

Romain has worked on a number of improvements to the gallery module, including;
It literally took me less than one minute to download, install and see the gallery working when I tested this new release, so go and download gallery-0.2.2.tar.gz!

Romain has just released an updated version of the Gallery Module (v0.2.1; 400kb download). Its looking fantastic, and is full of features. Like our new blog module with drag-n-drop widgets, it requires SilverStripe 2.1.0rc2 or later.
The update offers a huge amount of extra configuration within the CMS, and as always, you can use the SilverStripe developer framework to easily customise and configure it much further. The installation instructions are very simple, and you can quickly begin configuring your gallery:
Productive times! Brian, Jeremy and Andrew have been working over the past weeks to produce a free blog module for download. This is in parallel with Andrew releasing SilverStripe v2.1 and Ingo working towards v2.2 with our Google Summer of Code students, so it certainly feels like Christmas around here!
Blog comes out of the box working without any customisation necessary. You can easily and completely change the look and feel by making your own theme...

We are pleased to announce the beta version of our free, open source e-commerce module!
Our e-commerce module is the result of SilverStripe's knowledge gained through implementing some complex e-commerce websites such as Parents, Inc. and Perweek.
We've been busy working on the forum code recently, adding new features and making it work out of the box.
We're encouraging people to download it and give us feedback while we work towards a 1.0 release. The version number, 0.1, was used to explain that it contains only the core features of a forum (as opposed to being buggy).

The forum module is nearing release and as a preliminary step we've made the code available at dailybuilds.silverstripe.com so that developers can see how a module is constructed, and help with our testing process. Brief installation instructions exist. The forum module will be released as a stable download once documentation and remaining bugs have been fixed and tested.
