Interest in U.S. Politics set a new traffic record for a SilverStripe-powered website last week. DemConvention.com, the official website for the four day U.S. Democratic Party's National Convention, set some impressive stats:
The website runs on a number of Apache/Redhat Linux webservers. While PHP5 and MySQL underpin any SilverStripe website, the scalability is due primarily to the static file caching code we blogged about recently.

Thanks Google! Two weeks from today I'll be going back 19 hours in time, having been invited back to San Francisco for the Google Summer of Code mentor summit. This is all so we can discuss how to improve the extremely generous and very fruitful open source program that Google let us participate in this year. It's awesome to see a strong contingent of fellow New Zealanders coming, including Penny, Geoff and Robert.
It's less than two months since my last visit to Google, where I did an hour long tech-talk (video) and had an awe-inspiring tour of the Google campus, so I look forward to meeting up with the same great people (and the free food!)

Elijah Lofgren is one of our hardest working Google Summer of Code hackers, obviously not distracted by the heat in Alabama. He's been vigorously working through our Usability Report and refining the way the user interface of the CMS functions. These will find themselves into SilverStripe v2.1, being released later this year. With us only being halfway through the project, the end result is going to be amazing!
SilverStripe's file and images area now supports drag-n-drop manipulation...

We recently put SilverStripe under the microscope, and got an expert usability review of the content management system from our friends at Optimal Usability.
The report outlined a few things where we can improve the user experience and make SilverStripe even better, and also mentioned a few things we’re doing really well. We take usability seriously, and want SilverStripe to be an enjoyable experience for everyone.
