A core philosophy of open source is everyone helping each other towards a common goal of improving a software project and teaching people how to use it effectively. Here's an overview of how you can do this within the SilverStripe community:

Help others... 

• Answer questions in our forum. You can keep on top of new forum posts via RSS.
• Chat on our IRC chat channel, especially during our weekly core developer discussions each Friday 8.30am NZST.
• Chat on our mailing list
• Improve our documentation by suggesting documentation improvements (register first). You can read our documentation guidelines and write updates yourself. We have both a 100+ page CMS user guide and technical developer documentation to improve.

Designers...

• Build a SilverStripe site and submit a site to the SilverStripe website showcase. The best get featured in our monthly newsletter.
• Design a beautiful, standards-compliant theme and upload it to our themes directory and gain exposure by having hundreds of people download it each month.

Coders...

• Test current and upcoming SilverStripe releases and (register to) submit ideas, bug reports and code patches
• Build a small widget for people to drag-n-drop into their website. (Submit to Sigurd)
• Build and maintain an entire module for SilverStripe to promote in our modules directory, blog and newsletter. 
• Submit feature improvements to modules, or the core itself (Register first). Consisent, high quality input will put you good stead for being a core contributor.

Donate

• Donate money to be invested in to further coding, the infrastructure needed to support the SilverStripe CMS, in marketing initiatives, and producing real-world events for the community.
• Talk to Sigurd if you have hardware, promotion, speaking opportunities, or other services to donate...

Translate 

• Translate SilverStripe into another language, or keep existing translations up to date and peer-reviewed

Spread the word

• Evangelise SilverStripe. Blog, showcase, review, pitch, and demo SilverStripe. Suggest the project on mailing lists and forums around the world.
• Get a group of people together and show them how to build SilverStripe websites.
• Include a link to us phrased "Powered by SilverStripe open source CMS" in the footer of the websites you build.
