Information Architecture

No matter how great your website content is—if your users can't find what they are looking for they will get frustrated and may never return.

Information architecture is all about shaping the user experience by building an information infrastructure that makes it easy for your website visitors to find their way around your site and get to relevant information quickly. Everyone who comes to your site has a different perspective, a different background, and different goals. Labels, searchability, navigation structure, language and how you choose to organise your content all influence how findable your content is. The findability of your content determines how successfully your users meet their goals and how likely they are to stay or come back to your site.

At SilverStripe, we work with you to build information architecture that work for your organisation and your users.

We do this through activities such as:

  • Content audit of your existing site
  • Stakeholder interviews
  • User interviews
  • Card sorting—a technique where users sort relevant concepts into categories, to ensure that site structure and labels make sense to the user, not just the website owners

The typical deliverables from Information Architecture activities are a sitemap document that shows the structure, pages, and labels of your site several levels deep. We also provide wireframes which are high-level page layouts that define the content and other elements on a page. These wireframes are the basis for the design of the site.
