Thanks to everyone who nominated SilverStripe for "most promising open-source CMS". We're excited to say that we're a finalist; meaning from over 60 projects, we're in the top five. That we placed fourth is a fantastic result: our launch in February makes us significantly younger than the other finalists.
We now need your support to vote for us. If we get in the top three, we'll get a monetary prize which will be used to build up the project! Voting ends October 26.

Comparing the interim full results with the list of finalists is interesting. It's a surprise to see the immensely popular blogging tools Wordpress and Moveable Type did not fare well; I had figured Wordpress getting votes in each category would make them a sure finalist. Likewise, the smart guys at (enterprise-end) Alfresco didn't get included.
PacktPub, who run the competition, and thus can see the numbers of votes will be able to draw factual conclusions, but I wonder if this is the result of the communities around these products not identifying themselves with the CMS market? For TypePad and Alfresco, it also speaks of the real challenge of building communities when targeting the enterprise. It also reiterates how the CMS market is just so broad and fragmented, and that results like this should be expected--if you were to say there were more sports car drivers than truck drivers, that's just a comparison of the size of those markets, not that one is better than the other.

I thought the selected "Most Promising Finalists" were arranged in alphabetical order. There certainly seems to be a huge surge in the traffic and interest especially after support from Google. Keep up the good work and all the best :-)
