Building a digital identity for affordable housing in New Zealand

When The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the formation of Kāinga Ora, it was clear that they needed a new-look website to launch the bringing together of Housing New Zealand, HLC, and the KiwiBuild unit. They wanted to deliver their vision of healthy, secure, and affordable homes within diverse and thriving communities across New Zealand. Its Marketing team was already heavily involved working with a wide range of stakeholders on its overall brand work.

Kāinga Ora approached Silverstripe to help them create and launch their new website. It was important that the design for Kāinga Ora was approachable and personable so that people across New Zealand could connect with the brand. The Strategy & Design team ran discovery workshops to determine the look and feel of the design that would become the face of Kāinga Ora. They created a website brand that showed New Zealanders the unity between the three agencies and encouraged them to be a part of affordable housing in New Zealand.

Silverstripe was able to build Kāinga Ora a brochure website to get them up and running quickly, while also giving them the functionality they needed to deliver on key goals for their organisation. As the brand develops, the website has the ability to expand in content and functionality by using a modular content structure through content blocks. These blocks use drag-and-drop functionality in order to give CMS users complete freedom over the design and structure of their content on the page. By designing the blocks upfront, each page on the website is beautifully designed and accessible to all New Zealanders.
